World War I Project Overview

World War I Project Overview

One of the ways of understanding the experiences of war both as a soldier and as a civilian is to explore the war through the eyes of another.  Put yourself in the combat boots of an eighteen-year old boy/man involved in his first trench battle, or in the shoes of a nurse in a war hospital.  Now place yourself in the position of the boy or nurse’s mother, father, girlfriend, wife, husband, sister, or brother, worrying about the safety and lives of these loved ones who are entrenched in the war.  Consider the various aspects and perspectives of a continent at war…nationalism, propaganda, technology, news, and media, for example.  How do these factors influence your experiences?  Thoughts?  Feelings?  What would you want your family back home, or your soldier/nurse on the front, to know about these factors, and why?  These are just some of the questions and issues you need to explore as you engage in this project and strengthen your understanding of the scope and impact of World War I as well as those who played significant roles in the war.
